Time Out For Women

Awwww…it’s that time of year again.

Hundreds – possibly thousands – of women are going to descend on to the Phoenix Convention Center on October 15-16th with one purpose.

Okay, maybe two purposes…

The first one – to be spiritually lifted and refreshed by amazing speakers like Sheri Dew and Virginia H. Pearce.

The second one – to get Time Out – join other women, make friendships or renew friendships that last a lifetime and to party (As only LDS women can…you know what I’m talking about…)

I’m so excited about Time Out for Women this year, I can barely stand it – why? I’m a volunteer – I get to help out with all the madness and excitement.  I’m totally pumped.

Don’t know what Time Out for Women is?

Watch this video:

And that’s just a small taste of what you’ll hear there.  It’s going to be fabulous.

Now – Rachele Funk asked me some questions – and I thought I’d share them with you, as they all pertain to Time Out For Women (and because she said if I did, I’d get entered into a contest to win something cool…so well – there you go, in the spirit of full disclosure)

1. What is your favorite way to find a “time out” on a daily basis?

My secret candy stash. I admit it, I’m a sugar hoarder. Sometimes a simple few moments locked away in my bedroom listening to the hum of the air conditioner and a sweet treat is all I need to bring me back to focus. The quiet time is time to reflect on my family, my home, my life and things I can do to bring more clarity and joy to every moment. I’ve heard it said that the Savior lives in these quiet moments. I believe that to be true.

2. If you could have any treat and a movie, what would it be?

Currently it is chocolate fudge brownie ice cream and any movie that my sweetheart will watch with me. We have ice cream and movie night at least once a week. It is awesome.

3. Who is your favorite TOFW presenter?

I don’t know! I can’t choose. I refuse to, and you can’t make me. ;)

4. How many times have you been to TOFW?

Never. I’ve never ever ever been. Isn’t that sad?

5. What is your favorite thing about TOFW?

Is it cheating to say that the “time out” part is my favorite? As a mom to five I love having time with other moms and women who understand what it is like to need a little down time once in a while. It helps me be a better mommy, and helps me to see more clearly what I can do to be a successful parent – when I am recharged and spiritually refreshed.  Oh, and the fact that I get to eat out at a real restaurant and not have to help anyone color on the menu – I can do it because I WANT to.

6. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a convert to the church – sort of. I was born into a family that were members, but my parents divorced when I was three and my mother stopped going to church as a result. I didn’t find the church again until I was 13 years old. That, and I like to sing in the shower.

7. What is a favorite “tip for the event” you'd like to give their friends when planning for TOFW?

Wear comfortable shoes and leave your reservations about meeting new people at home!

Woo Hoo!  Now, who’s going with me?  There’s a group registration – if you get 5 or more people together and pre-register it’s only $47.00 per person…

If you have questions, email me.  I can’t wait!!!  (Didn’t I say that already?)

My Birthday Present

So I’ve been begging the husband for a special gift.

I wanted a puppy dog.

Nothing big, something small breed like a Mini Pin or a Chihuahua - (yes, I said Chihuahua…get over it)…and his answer was an adamant NO.

Until yesterday.

My sweet husband has been plotting for weeks.  His friend had a Chihuahua – she’s 5 years old and he just couldn’t keep her with his other three dogs.  So he gave her to us.

Here she is:

Her name is Summer and she’s my Puppy. Okay, so she’s technically an adult dog, but who cares.  She’s mine.

I have the best husband ever!

Swim Meet

Annie is on a swim team this summer.  Our home pool is Starlight Pool – and she’s in the 11-12 age group.

First of all – she’s awesome – just in case you didn’t know that.

Second – here are some pictures of the meet, because you see, this time, I got to go.

She got a few second place ribbons and two third place ribbons.  She’s awesome!

Daddy Daughter Derby

Our ward does a Daddy Daughter derby each year with the activity days girls.  This was Annie and Becky’s first one – but apparently this is a HUGE event here in Tolleson ward.

First – the cars.  Ammon and Annie and Becky spent a lot of time on them…and then the girls painted them themselves (which we later found out, it IS a competition for coolest LOOKING car as well..who knew? :) )

And here are all the girls awaiting their turn:

And then – Off to the RACES!

And then the awards:

Becky got Best Team Effort – because it was obvious they worked on the car together.

Annie won 2nd place over all – and funniest car name “Hoof Harted” (say it real fast, you’ll get it)

They all had a great time – and it was a lot of fun.  I’m looking forward to next year!
